Anticipation Report – September 2021
It seems that viewers are looking for an escape from reality with these highly anticipated new September series. Taking the top spot is Apple TV+’s Foundation premiering on the 24th. The sci-fi drama is based on the award winning book of the same name, and follows a group of exiles attempting to save humanity as the galaxy around them collapses. We then travel to a post-apocalyptic world with Hulu’s DC Comic based series Y: The Last Man at No. 2. Rounding out the top three is animated anthology series Star Wars: Visions, which is compromised of various anime inspired short films. Netflix makes its way into the chart at No. 4 with Midnight Mass at the end of the month, while Peacock’s adaptation of best-selling novel Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol comes in at No. 5.
Viewers are also anticipating the return of beloved series this Fall. Netflix dominates the top of the pack with season three of teen comedy Sex Education (No. 1), season 5 of Spanish crime series Money Heist (No. 2) and season 2 of Belgian sci-fi thriller Into the Night (No. 3). At No. 4 comes the latest installment of American Crime Story, premiering the beginning of the month, which follows the Clinton–Lewinsky scandal. AppleTV+ hit The Morning Show (No. 5) returns for a second season on the 17th.
